Share Your Abortion Story

Don’t Give the Liberal Media Your Abortion Story!

by | May 1, 2018

Last week the liberal New York Times was at it again, asking women to write about their abortions and submit them for potential publication. Here was their lure:

We Want to Hear From Women Around the World About Abortion. We know abortion can be hard to talk about, even with loved ones. But sharing your experience can help others think through the complexities. If you have ever considered an abortion, please tell us about it. We may publish a selection of the responses. We will reach out to you before using your comment or name.”

Think through the complexities of abortion? What does that even mean?

Matthew 7:6 reveals God’s perspective on this idea – Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

The abortion industry features abortion as a private choice. Then they work to exploit post-abortive women into submitting their abortion stories for the sole purpose of advancing abortion rights. These pro-abortion groups want to normalize the abortion experience so that it will never become illegal.

It’s not rocket science to know that when a fox is watching the hen house, chickens get eaten. Women who contribute truthful and heartfelt tales of their abortion pain will likely never be published due to this publication’s hard stand on abortion rights. Instead writers may be cataloged into a liberal database as “anti-abortion.”

Being included in such a directory could result in all sorts of liberal outrage against the wounded individual. With ongoing “fake” news and witch hunts, most media outlets have been identified with a liberal bias. They simply cannot be trusted with matters of the heart.

If post-abortive people are singled out among liberals, they typically are attacked or simply discredited by other voices. At the very least, these heartfelt submissions will be rendered worthless as truth rarely is published in liberal media outlets.

To make matters worse, a prolife group last week encouraged women to submit their stories to this liberal fake news outlet. Their “vision” for this task was – if enough women respond negatively about the impact of abortion on their lives, they might change the New York Time’s opinion on abortion.

This mindset is totally naïve. A quick google search for New York Times and Abortion Stories reveals this liberal news outlet has previously shared the information they collected during online abortion story request.

A similar compilation of “abortion stories” in 2013 showed they published 89% of stories from women who were happy with their abortion experience. The other 11% of the stories were from women who were working to say this choice was a good experience. None of the stories outlined the deep regret that often follows this choice.

Post-abortive women in penance mode often believe they might feel better if they submit their stories. Rarely do these declarations or stories provide relief – only God can do that!

If healing has yet to be established, the emotional impact of compiling 250-500 words about one of the worst days of their lives can be staggering. Afterwards, many hearts simply have no one to help them with the pain this writing can resurrects.

Here are several additional reasons not to submit an abortion story to any public media outlet:

The written word can endure for generations. Published words have a very different power over a spoken declaration. I never write something that I am not comfortable with being featured in a Google search. Nor do I allow others to control the words I have written because their edits may change my entire meaning.

Because my childhood experience was devastating, I am careful not to sin further by outlining anything that could wound my family further. The written word, even when outlined with great care, can be easily misunderstood and misused.

These assignments can spark new hidden areas of pain. I have comforted many hysterical post-abortive women whose pain has exploded after completing these written tasks. They may have completed an abortion recovery program but there are other areas of their heart that need deeper healing before they ever go public.

We cannot trust any organization that currently collects these stories – even if they are against abortion. With each shift in leadership, organizations change – for the better or for the worse. Promises made by previous leaders may not carry forward to new leaders.

Published submissions result in the individual’s name and abortion story appearing whenever the individual’s name is “googled.” Consider the pain that could occur if a family member, who was unaware of this person’s abortion, discovered such a “confession” in a public format?

It is too risky to trust the written words of tender post-abortive hearts to anyone who may not have their best interests at heart. Ministry leaders must diligently seek God in protecting these “lambs” from lurking predators

Placing the unprepared and/or unhealed post-abortive individual on abortion’s battle line by pushing them to submit their abortion story to a liberal outlet is like sending a toddler to war armed with a machine gun! The potential for self-inflected wounds and/or injuring allies through “friendly fire” is monumental!

Abortion is simply too volatile of a subject for anyone to address lightly. The point you must keep in mind is Paul’s exhortation to Timothy in I Timothy 6:20-21Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge which some have professed and in so doing have wandered from the faith.

There are certainly effective ways an abortion story can be shared to impact the hearts of our world against abortion. If you truly believe you are called to share your abortion story publicly or in writing, be sure to review Session 9 at HerChoicetoHeal.com. This “Sharing Your Secret” session outlines the healthy steps someone should take before being publicly identified by their abortion experience.

If you or someone you know is struggling after an abortion experience, tell them about our new online abortion recovery program at HerChoicetoHeal.com. Pray for them and encourage them that there is no sin that God cannot forgive – even abortion!
