Post Abortion Healing

I Never Heard From Them Again

by | Jul 10, 2017

“I don’t know how I’d ever have gotten through this without your help, Sydna,” a ministry contact outlined in a letter I saved nearly twenty years ago. “You have been such a dear sister in this grieving process. What a wonderful release it has been to mourn, name and honor my child. I will always pray for your efforts, hoping many other women get the blessing of knowing you as I have!”

Ramah International’s main goal is to help individuals experiencing abortion pain find God’s healing. Whether this is by talking to them directly and helping them discover God’s healing, writing blogs that answer their deepest questions, taking calls because they are pregnant again and considering abortion, or in referring them to local abortion recovery programs. We are always assured that God will somehow use us in their lives.

When someone sends me a message like the one above, I typically never hear from them again. Abortion pain, once processed, needs to be released.

Our “identity” as post-abortive women need never be revealed to the world and this choice should never define us as an individual or as a mother. Any association or support of an abortion recovery ministry should always be led by God as well.

“Barbie” contacted us through our on-line healing website, Her Choice to Heal, after one of my blogs hit a spot in her heart. We spent several weeks in direct communication before I comfortably referred her to a local abortion recovery program.

These efforts are a form of “triage,” allowing the individual to prepare for face-to-face ministry services by processing their initial heartfelt concerns privately. Some never can be referred because no programs exist in their area. If that is the case, we continue to communicate until peace from God is achieved.

“Barbie’s” abortion had occurred ten years earlier. She had been blocking (or denying) her abortion grief because she was terrified that if she touched that pain, she’d become suicidal.

A life event caught up with “Barbie’s” heart in God’s time. When her mother passed away, the grief consumed her. All she could think about was the child she had aborted who was in heaven with her mother.

God uses a wide variety of instruments to help us heal from our sinful choices. There comes a time for all His children to expose their secret sins to Him and reach forward, in repentance, for His grace. This truth is outlined in 2 Corinthians 4:1-3 NIV:

… we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.

God’s healing is free. It comes with the mandate that Jesus offered to the woman caught in adultery. Jesus declared, “Go now and leave your life of sin.” John 8:11b.

“Barbie” was referred to a pregnancy center’s abortion recovery program and I never heard from her again. After her child’s memorial service, her leader wrote to share how God had miraculously moved in her life. The harvest of God’s healing in her heart changed her forever.

The only goal in abortion recovery is to help these wounded hearts hear and understand God’s voice in their heart. The revival in their soul does not necessarily mean that they are required to stand on a platform and share their story to help end abortion in our world. God often has other plans, whether that is another ministry effort or just in helping them be better mothers, sisters, daughters and friends.

Some find that years later they need to talk again about their abortion pain. Elements of grief are often reignited during a lifetime. Local leaders come and go but most of these hearts remember their first point of touching this pain. It’s my pleasure to help them navigate these additional emotions and set their hearts to understanding that God’s healing isn’t complete until we reach heaven!

Other healed hearts may write revealing they have discovered another friend that has experienced abortion. God’s healing goes out – one soul at a time. This is no coincidence as a healed post-abortive women is typically the only one that will ask the question, “Have you experienced an abortion?” Like a domino effect, coaching them in how to help this friend is a delight as it means God’s healing is expanded!

John 4:34-38 NIV shares a mandate for His people – My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true.  I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.”

If God has healed your heart from a past abortion, yet not led you to help others, please pray for our efforts. Pray for the hundreds of thousands that are still sitting in silent prisons of pain, waiting for God’s release. There may come a time when He moves you to another season in helping sow the seeds of hope so others can reap His harvest.

God is on the move and a great revival for post-abortive people is on the horizon. The harvest thus far that God has provided through Ramah International will soon explode exponentially. As a result of the last 25 years, these healed hearts now watch abortion politics and legislation efforts at a much deeper level and vote according. We need your prayers now more than ever before.

Wait… there’s another message that has just arrived from our on-line healing site at Her Choice to Heal. It’s “Maggie” and her abortion was just three weeks ago. Gotta go and attend her needs. It’s harvest time!
